How to give your child a Christian Worldview, over the years we Christians have called it many things. What is a worldview and more importantly, what is a Christian Worldview? It could best be described as the process of finding out what the Bible says about varying topics and issues of the day. Once discovered, the particular issue can be addressed with the truth of the Bible. The next step is believing and acting upon what is discovered in the Bible.
As parents, we must always focus on the gospel and the salvation of our children (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Teaching a Christian Worldview to your children is not as easy as giving them a book to read, it must be a skill that is taught, a process where children and parents are actively searching and discussing the things learned from the Bible. It is as much about the parent and child relationship as it is about obtaining biblical facts. The process is a skill that both Christian parents and their children must master. It is a critical skill in the discipleship process.
As a mother of 6 children,
all of whom are adults now but one.
I would say that teaching them a
Christian Worldview has been absolutely critical
in building their faith,
and confronting the culture
with the truth
of the Bible.
Why is it important to have a Christian Worldview?
After salvation, we must equip our children (Ephesians 4:11-12). Giving our children a Christian Worldview is a part of equipping them to live successfully for Christ. We also need to teach our children how to share the gospel, how to study the Bible, how to pray, how to serve others, and why it is important.
Let’s look at some facts…
- Only 20% of church-attending teens are spiritually active at age 29. (The Barna Group)
- 61% of young adults that were churched as a teen, disengaged during their twenties. (The Barna Group)
- Of the thousand 20 to 29-year-olds surveyed only 11% were still going to church during their early college years. (The Barna Group)
As a parent, those are some of the scariest statistics around!
“The crux of the worldview conflict… is the denial of God’s right to be God and the usurpation of that right by man. In a word, it is a life or death struggle over sovereignty. Who will be sovereign, man, or God?
If God has lost the authority to be sovereign over reality, if He has lost the authority to provide objective law, and if He has lost the authority to reveal absolute truth, then in the eyes of men, He has lost the right to be God. He has been stripped of His “God-ness,” or the very attributes which make Him God.
At the same time, man is never content to be godless. He must have a god. Somebody or something must provide that authority. Thus, modern man gladly assumes that position, and humanist man becomes his own ultimate authority… This is the Gettysburg of the worldview war of the 21st century.”
― Kevin Swanson, Apostate
How do we solve the problem?
The truth is there are a lot of so-called solutions but I think the Bible can give us the truth. Let’s not forget to pray daily for our children and remember the prayers of the righteous avails much!
2 Timothy 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
